HEALTHY Armstrong PEP Grant Success

Below you will find goals and outcomes from the HEALHTY Armstrong Annual Performance Report for year two of their three year PEP Grant.  If you have any questions or comments, please contact us at 724-543-8580.

 

Goal: “Students will use heart rate monitors to measure personal heart rate in 20% of PE classes by the end of Year 3.”

Outcome: In total, heart rate monitors were used in 32 out of 183 scheduled PE class periods, or 17.5%

 

Goal: “100% of students will participate in fitness assessments (including BMI).”

Outcome: 2,490/2,490=100% participation in BMI assessment in Year 2

All PE-enrolled students participated in these fitness tests, including FITNESSGRAM’s PACER, Sit-and-Reach, Curl-up/Sit-ups, Push-ups, and the mile walk/run.

 

Goal: “85% of students will report participating in at least one new physical activity by the end of Year 1.”

Outcome: Year 1: 326/360 students= 90.6% in at least one new physical activity in Year 1

 

Goal: “At least 10% of students will report participating in a before school or after school PEP sponsored activity session by the end of Year 1.”

Outcome: Year 1: 160/360 students=44.4% participated in PEP-sponsored before or after school programs, exceeding the Year 1 target by 344%!

 

Goal: “The percentage of students who engage in 60 minutes of physical activity per day will increase annually.  Year 1: Raise 10% against baseline.

Outcome: Year 1: Increase from 45.8% to 52.1%

 

Goal: “By the end of Year 2, there will be a 10% increase over baseline in the percentage of students in Grade 7-12 reporting consuming fruit 2 or more times per day.”

Outcome: Baseline: 87/379=22.9%

Year 1: 81/369=22.0%

Year 2: 88/424=20.8%

 

Goal: “By the end of year 3, there will be a 20% increase over baseline in the percentage of students in grades 7-12 reporting consuming fruit 2 or more times per day and vegetables 3 or more times per day.”

Outcome: Year 1: Increase from 8.4% to 10.6%

 

Goal: We will decrease the BMI percentages that indicate risk for overweight or overweight by 5% by the end of the project period.”

Outcome: Baseline: 1,180/3,075=38.4%

Year 2: 1,018/2490=40.9% overweight/obese
